Independent Audit Report

Following a competitive tender process Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (Deloitte) was engaged by Medicines Australia to independently audit the educational events reported by member companies, held between July and December 2007, against the requirements of the Code of Conduct.

Deloitte was again appointed by Medicines Australia to analyse the educational events held between January and June 2008.

Deloitte analysed the 41 educational event reports for 1 January – 30 June 2008 to identify events that were potentially in breach of the Code.

Based on the data integrity testing conducted by Deloitte, Medicines Australia notes there were significantly less events reported with incomplete data fields when compared with the reporting period July to December 2007.  This and other measures of data integrity indicate that the quality and completeness of the data has significantly improved.

Medicines Australia referred the Independent Auditor’s analysis of all events with exceptions against test criteria to the Independent Monitoring Committee.  The Monitoring Committee closely scrutinised approximately 5 per cent of the 15,836 educational events reported to Medicines Australia.

The Monitoring Committee met five times during August and September 2008 to review each event referred by the Independent Auditor.  The process for the Monitoring Committee’s review under the Code of Conduct is described in Section 14 of the Code.

The Monitoring Committee considered the majority of events referred by the Independent Auditor were not in breach of the Code.  Twenty-one educational events have been referred by the Monitoring Committee to the Code of Conduct Committee for adjudication.

You may submit a complaint about an educational event at any time to the Code of Conduct Committee.
